This morning, feel wanna to talk about 'types of jokes', I have known people who are very good of joking around. With time, I started to realise that I do like certain types of jokes and not all types of jokes. For some, when they joke and the laughter comes from their 'brattiness' towards others. For example, using ill-mannered words like 'idiot', 'down-syndrome', and other words which are more proper to be categorized as 'words for scolding/ defaming others' than words for 'joking around'. This kind of joke needs to be 'performed' in a very skillful and considerate way, otherwise, it would turn a situation into '9 laugh out loud and 1 cries in the heart '. In other words, the laughters come from the 'sense of victory' of the more dominant ones over the ones who are less dominant. As for myself, I would prefer jokes which making all of us ( the more dominant ones and also the less dominant ones ) laugh together at the same time; jokes that don't make your friend 'a bull's eye' just because you wanna to show people how superb you are. If a target is really needed for a 'harmless joke', at lease we need to make sure that we never set him/her on the bull's eye to be 'humiliated' but we lay him/her on it to be 'admired'. Jokes come from different people do have different effects. If you have a 'real enemy' in your group, I will not think he/she will laugh at your joke, haha! ( No matter how good is the joke, it will still very likely to be turned into a 'cold joke'. ) So, next time before you wanna to practise a joke in front of others, make sure that you have never said anything which has annoyed their self worth as that may cause them to reject your joke 'naturally'.
I love to watch stand-up comedy talk. And, the comedian always never fails to make the audience laugh. One of the reasons which I definitely would agree with, the comedian will never ever say anything that 'hurts' our self worth; that's for sure. Thus, all of us can laugh at most of the jokes told. I would not condemn the comedian as a 'liar', as it can be somewhat 'unreasonable' to do so ( Believe or not, there are people living in some parts of the world will say that! They will say these comedians are on the stage to 'con' your money by telling you nice jokes, they are just liars! But what they have never thought of, not all the people think the same like them, some people don't think these comedians are liars but they are just willing to pay for some nice jokes. So, nothing wrong with that, right? )
I remember there was a joke told by Dayo Wong ( a HK comedian ), part of the joke was something like this, " I love the white men's hygiene concern and their moral attitude towards littering. I have never seen a white man throw rubbish on the street /picking nose publicly/spitting on the floor. Anyone of you have ever seen that?" And, some of the 'rebellious' audiences replied, "Yes!" Dayo Wong immediately replied in a humourous way, "Those who have seen this, must be those who are not highly educated I am sure." ( This is really not easy, if the same statement were being told by another person who is not skillful enough, the effect can be quite embarrasing. But, fortunately, our Dayo Wong never disappointed us, once he said that, all the audiences laughed out uncontrollably. I would not say his joke was humiliating our self worth as the 'sarcastic mood' didn't exist at all. ) The same went to Michael Hui, I went for his comedy stand-up, his was even better than Dayo Wong's ( I mean when the last time he was in Genting Highlands, Dayo Wong was not that good compared to his comedy stand-up in HK where more interesting topics were being shared humourously ).
So, at the end of day, what kind of jokes will be the best remedy; the real 'antidote' ? Certainly, the one that makes ourselves laugh out uncontrollably and not the one that makes us feel the joker is a pain in our neck.
